About Labiaplasty
The "Alter Labia Minora Contouring Technique" was recently reported
by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Gary J. Alter in the plastic
surgery literature. Gynecologists and most plastic surgeons perform
the labiaplasty operation very differently. They essentially amputate
the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and leave a long suture line
instead of the normal labial edge.
In contrast, Dr. Alter removes triangles of tissue and bring the
normal edges together. Thus the normal labial edges, normal color,
and normal anatomy remain. If you have extra tissue on your clitoral
hood, Dr. Alter can reduce it at the same time. In addition, Beverly
Hills Plastic Surgeon, Gary J. Alter, MD has made several
modifications to his labiaplasty technique that have not yet
published, so no other surgeon has his technique.
My labiaplasty technique takes about 2 hours and is performed with
magnification to assume an accurate approximation of the normal
labial edges, whereas the other labiaplasty technique takes 15-30
minutes and results in a scar line as your labial edge. That scar can
cause chronic discomfort and disfigurement.
Labiaplasty surgery is relatively minor and is not very
uncomfortable. It is performed in my Beverly Hills, California or
Manhattan, New York fully accredited surgical center. General
anesthesia is usually used, but sedation with local anesthesia is
possible. The complication rate from labiaplasty is extremely low. If
you have a relatively sedate job, you can probably return to work in
5 days. I will see you on the day before surgery, and you can return
home 2-3 days after the operation. You can resume sexual relations in
about 6 weeks. None of my patients have complained of any loss of
sensation or any decline in the ability to have orgasms.
Insurance may cover your labiaplasty surgery if you have any
discomfort. We are happy to assist you in obtaining preauthorization.
This labia minora procedure (labiaplasty) description was published
in the prestigious journal 'Annals of Plastic Surgery". It was
also featured in Cosmopolitan magazine in November 1998, in
Playboy magazine's August 1999 Playboy Advisor; in the
February 2000 and November 2003 issue of Marie Claire
magazine, and in Glamour magazine, etc.
